My family experienced the passing of a loved one around the holidays, and in my grieving, I picked up the book Signs by Laura Lynne Jackson. I had seen a friend share and highly recommend it on Instagram after losing her husband. I had purchased it for another friend (prior to reading it myself), after she lost her dad. The collection of stories in Signs moved me to tears and opened a window where I am now able to SEE the signs from my loved ones on the other side.

I started to ask for signs while reading the book to see if it would really work. What did I have to lose? I came up with a parrot (we are HUGE Jimmy Buffett fans). We had a mass said in February at our church for our family member that passed away. We live in the midwest and February is cold! I’ll never forget sitting in church and my husband whispering to me “Is that parrots on the pianist’s shirt?”. Lo and behold, in the dead of winter, our pianist had a tropical shirt on covered in parrots. We both burst into tears. Our loved ones had given us a sign to let us know they are still with us even in the darkest of times.

Now I have hundreds of stories like this. Seeing signs is an open and ongoing conversation in our house. If I start to tear up, my husband will say to our kids “ Mom got her sign”.

I wrote Angel Winks as a way to teach my own kids how to ask and look for signs. To show them how love never ends and we are all connected. By talking about signs and messages we receive, it celebrates the stories of our connection with one another.

My Grandma Maddie is 92 years young. My mom flew out to help move her into a home for those on hospice. While there my mom read her Angel Winks. We decided that Grandma Maddie would send us Angels when she gets to the other side. My Grandma Maddie grew up in the Angel Guardian Orphanage so this sign makes perfect sense.

A closing thought for those nearing the end of their time on this earth. What if we had the conversation about signs while they are still here? What if you decide on a special sign that they can send you when they get to the other side so that you know they are ok and still with you in spirit and the energy of love?
